Water – the new open market for businesses, and creating a new entrant – NWG Business
Guest Speaker: Lissa Balmer, SME Customer Director, NWG Business
Northumbrian Water Group has a new business retail arm, NWG Business, and we are delighted that Lissa Balmer, SME Customer Director of NWG Business will be talking to us at a hugely important time for the water market and businesses.
From 1 April the English water market – the world’s largest retail market – opened up, giving 1.2m English business customers a choice over their water and waste retail contracts.
The programme is thought to be the biggest change to the sector since its privatisation in 1989. There are 20 water retailers competing for business, including NWG Business.
Lissa will talk about her fascinating experience of being part of a new business entrant to come out of an existing entity, facing a highly competitive market. As the associated retailer of Northumbrian Water and Essex & Suffolk Water, NWG Business already has 100,000 customers and Lissa believes the 80-strong team is offering SMEs advice, practical help and business solutions that go much further than water-related connections. A new website has been launched, nwgb.co.uk, which encourages interaction with customers.
Lissa said: “OFWAT’s Cathyrn Ross threw down the gauntlet when she commented that water companies delivered “an analogue service in a digital age” and that really resonated with me. I wanted our website to be something our team could be proud of that ultimately delivers more for our customers.”
Service Network members will find Lissa’s experience of creating a new business helpful and relevant. Lissa’s talk will touch on the impact of the competitive water market and ways in which businesses can become much more efficient.
