NWL operates in the north east of England, where it trades as Northumbrian Water, and in the south east of England, where it trades as Essex & Suffolk Water. Northumbrian Water provides water and sewerage services to 2.7 million people with an operating area of 9,422km2 through 16,965km of mains and 29,724km of sewers. Essex & Suffolk Water provides water services to 1.8 million people with an operating area of 2,892km2 through 8,580km of mains.
Our activities
We continue to focus on our core competencies of water and waste water management, and aim to deliver value to all stakeholders by being a leading performer in the industry. We are firmly rooted within the communities we serve. This understanding of, and commitment to, those communities is demonstrated by our leadership in initiatives such as ′Water for Health′, affordable housing and in our approach to corporate responsibility. Our mission is clear – to be the national leader; our strategy reflects this and provides a clear direction for all our activities.
North east England
Northumbrian Water provides water and sewerage services to 2.7 million people in the north east of England. The major population centres of Tyneside, Wearside and Teesside are in our area but we also serve large rural areas in Northumberland and County Durham (provision of waste water services only in Hartlepool).
